GRAND ISLAND, N.Y. (WKBW) — U.S. Border Patrol agents recovered 108 pounds of marijuana near a hiking trail in Grand Island Tuesday.

Officials say agents observed a helicopter hovering at a low altitude over a parking lot on Beaver Island State Park around 8:20 Tuesday night.

Agents then searched the area and discovered four large duffel bags containing 108 pounds of marijuana along the brush line.

Each duffel bag contained 25 sealed plastic packages of marijuana with an estimated street value of approximately $151,200.

“Border Patrol agents are the nation’s first line of defense. U.S. Federal Law prohibits the importation of marijuana and our agents will continue to enforce the law to prevent the illegal importation of narcotics, including marijuana”, said Patrol Agent in Charge Jeffrey Wilson, of the Buffalo Station.

The incident is currently being investigated by federal, state and local authorities.
