Lewiston Police are warning warning residents and business owners about a scam from callers claiming to be from National Grid or National Fuel.
Police say they have received multiple reports of residents receiving calls saying a payment must be made immediately or their service would be discontinued. Callers are being told to pay using a pre-paid credit card. Utility services will not ask for payment this way.
Do not call the number the scammers provide to make a payment. If you are unsure whether or not the call is legitimate, call the number on your utility statement to verify.
