Erie County could see a record breaking turnout for Tuesday’s big election.

Almost six-hundred-thousand residents are registered to vote, and nearly 70 percent are expected to cast their ballots by Tuesday.

Erie County Democratic Elections Commissioner, Len Lenihan said with such a heated presidential race on the ballot, security is becoming an increasing concern for many voters.

“Donald Trump saying that he encouraging people to go to the election booth and monitor what’s going on there. But of course that doesn’t work that way and that’s not a great help in us carrying out this election,” Lenihan said.

That’s why the Board of Election is working with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, to make sure there are not disruptions at Erie County polls.

But Erie County Republican Committee Chair, Nick Langworthy said he’s not concerned about there being any security issues.

“I have zero concerns about physical security anymore so than any other election, that would take place. I think the people who are trying to get that conversation started or trying to disrupt our peaceful election process,” Langworthy said.

The commissioner said he doesn’t expect any issues come Tuesday. But he said it’s better to be safe than sorry.
