Lancaster plotting plan of attack against rats

Officials in Lancaster are plotting their plan of attack against a growing rate invasion.

Members of the Village Board held a work session focused on the issue, Monday night.

Board members tell 7 Eyewitness News they've received an uptick in complaints about the rodents.

The Village is now looking to launch an educational program to show residents how to keep rats away from their homes.

Several meetings are scheduled for the future between the Village, Town and Waste Mangement, which handles garbage collection in the area.  One possibility currently on the table is switching to a tote system.

One major barrier, however, is the fact that Waste Management's contract with Lancaster does not expire until 2019.
