Assemblyman Kearns and Lackawanna officials will unveil a new HAWK beacon system on Ridge Road that stops traffic both ways when a pedestrian wishes to cross.

The crosswalk is equipped with a HAWK beacon traffic control device, located outside of Lackawanna Public Library.

Officials say the new system is expected to help students and people with disabilities safely cross the road.

Ridge Road has four lanes and is one of the main roads for commercial vehicles traveling between South Park and Route 5.

The purchase and installation of the device cost $125,000.
