Christmas 2015 is now in the books but the holiday season continues in Western New York. The seven-day festival of Kwanzaa kicked off Saturday morning with a special children's celebration.

Saturday's event included art activities and storytelling along with a math and science expo at the Buffalo Academy of the Visual and Performing Arts at the corner of Masten and Ferry in Buffalo.

The night time celebration for Kwanzaa took place Saturday night at the same location. This event included an opening ceremony along with a tribute to ancestors and elders.

Kwanzaa celebrates the traditional African Harvest, which takes place during the month of December.

Each of the seven days of Kwanzaa represents one of the Seven Principles.
