It was a bittersweet morning for students, parents and teachers as Kenmore Middle School opens and closes its doors for the last time.

This is the last of three school closuresin the Ken-Ton district. Roosevelt and Hamilton Elementary had their last day of classes On Monday.

The closures come after a number of struggles for the district, including the shut down of the Huntley power plant, which provided millions of dollars of funding.

When classes resume in September 2016, the Ken-Ton district will only have nine schools in total.

The district has also changed the way grade levels are grouped into schools. Elementary school will be kindergarten through fourth grade, fifth through seventh grade will be middle school and high school will consist of students from eighth through 12th grade.
