Sabres player Evander Kane has filed a countersuit against a woman who accused him of sexually assaulting her back in December.

The woman filed a civil suit against Kane last month, after an investigation into the accusations did not result in criminal charges.

According to Kane's lawyer, Paul Cambria, Kane vehemently denies the woman's accusations, and is now seeking “significant” damages given the harm the woman's claims have caused to his name and reputation.

In court documents detailing the woman's civil suit, the woman alleges she met Kane at Encore Bar downtown on December 27, 2015. The documents state Kane invited her back to his room at the HARBORCENTER Marriott under the pretext that she would be attending a party.

In the documents, the woman says she was in Kane's room when he inflicted violent and physical battery on her, causing her to suffer bodily injuries including lacerations and extensive bleeding.

The documents also say the woman had to have multiple surgeries and blood transfusions and has been going through serious emotional trauma.

Cambria called the claims "baseless" and "false," and said Kane has always denied any wrongdoing.
