Erie County Democrats endorsed former Tonawanda Town Justice John Flynn, a former assistant district attorney and Tonawanda Town Council member, as their 2016 candidate for District Attorney on Saturday.

As Tonawanda councilman, Flynn led the effort to reduce the size and cost of government and successfully pushed for ethics reforms aimed at reducing the influence of politics at town hall.

Flynn currently practices law with Steve Boyd Attorneys and is a commander in the United States Naval Reserves.

While on active duty he was attached to the Judge Advocate General's Corp as Officer-in-Charge of legal counsel at the United States Naval Academy for more than 5,000 naval personnel and staff.

Flynn earned his law degree from the University at Buffalo School of Law and currently teaches courses on legal issues in the political science department at Buffalo State College.

He lives in Tonawanda with his wife, Debra, and their five children.
