The 14-year-old girl who threatened to shoot up JFK High School in Cheektowaga yesterday has been charged with falsely reporting an incident.

Officials say the 14-year-old and her parents voluntarily surrendered to police early this morning.

Because the girl is under 16, the case will be handled in Family Court. She is currently in Family Court awaiting a judge.

Cheektowaga Police Department Assistant Chief James Speyer says police first received a call from someone with a screenshot of a snapchat containing a threat on Tuesday. The snapchat showed a picture of a hallway at JFK High School with text reading "I'm going to shoot up the school."

Although police determined the threat was not credible on Tuesday, many JFK students missed the day of school or were picked up early by concerned parents.
