JetBlue now offers one nonstop flight a day between Buffalo and sunny Los Angeles.

A comparison of the lowest fares from each airline on a randomly chosen day shows  JetBlue offers the cheapest, most direct and least time consuming option - $149 for a flying time of five hours and 26 minutes on September 1, 2016.

In 2013, New York Senator Charles Schumer asked the airline to add direct service from Buffalo to LAX, saying it would boost tourism and increase travel options for Western New Yorkers. He also said this flight option will bring more Canadian travelers through Buffalo.

"Buffalo will become a 'welcome mat' for visitors from LA and travelers from Canada, who will enjoy our top notch restaurants, hotels, and other tourist attractions during their trip," Schumer said.

The Buffalo Niagara International Airport has gone from being one of the most expensive airports in the country to one of the top 25 most cost-efficient airports today, according to airport officials. They credit lower fares offered by both JetBlue and Southwest, which forced other airlines to lower their prices.

JetBlue says if the Buffalo to Los Angeles service is successful, it could offer additional service from Western New York to the west coast.
