Ice House in East Aurora goes into foreclosure

The days of the Ice House in East Aurora are over. Erie County's Real Estate Tax Services Department confirms that the bar has gone into foreclosure.

The property has been purchased by a group of local businesswomen for $91,000.

The Ice House has an outstanding tax bill of more than $250,000. Carole A. Becker, who owned the bar, last filed for bankruptcy four days before a deadline that would have allowed the county to foreclose on the property.

"The owner of that parcel is someone who we define as a serial filer of bankruptcy," said Joseph Maciejewski, the county's director of Real Property Tax Services. "She took advantage of the system by regularly ignoring our efforts to collect on the arrears by filing five different bankruptcies over the past 18 years. The frustration that many in the East Aurora community felt can now end thanks to the bid made by a group of local businesswomen."

In January the State Liquor Authority also took action against the Ice House. The establishments liquor license was pulled because the bar allegedly served alcohol to minors.

Residents say the bar has been a problem for years.

"I've had property damaged, my windows smashed, my kids harassed. It's just a - it's a constant thing," said Joshua Martin, who owns a neighboring business.;
