BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) — Western New York Congressman Brian Higgins is calling for Bishop Richard Malone to resign. Higgins was one of the first elected-leaders to call for Malone to resign last year.

Higgins is reacting to the 7EWN I-Team investigation revealing audio recordings of Malone. Higgins says these recordings reveal Malone violated the very policy he told the community that the Diocese of Buffalo was following when it came to credible by letting Father Nowak remain in ministry.

"There is compelling evidence that includes the bishops own words and his own voice - that a priest that he characterized is dangerous and irrational was left in ministry - that is wrong and the people of Buffalo and Western New York deserve better," commented Higgins.

Higgins said Bishop Malone has led a "conspiracy" to protect the abuser of children in the Catholic Diocese of Buffalo.

"I think the Catholic Diocese’s protects the abuser of kids and shuns the abused kids. It’s a sin and it’s a crime and it’s a sin to cover it up," Higgins stated.

Higgins says Malone can no longer hide behind his quote "public relations machine."

"He's got to come before the people of Buffalo and Western New York and explain what is going on here," Higgins replied.

Higgins accuses Malone of covering up and being in direct conflict with his own policy.
