BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Tuesday, September 24 is National Voter Registration Day. What better way to celebrate than registering to vote?
In New York State, most U.S. citizens age 18 or older can register to vote online, with a few restrictions. New York State says to register, you must:
- Not be in prison or on parole for a felony conviction
- Not be declared mentally incompetent by a court
- Not claim the right to vote in another place
Registering to vote only takes about five minutes online.
Before starting the process, you'll need your driver's license, permit or non-driver ID, the zip code currently on record with the DMV and your social security number.
You can find out about upcoming elections, candidates and their finances, and registering with a political party on the New York State Board of Elections website.
