A house on Langner Road in West Seneca is going pretty in pink for breast cancer awareness month and it's sparking emotions for many people who pass by.
“It’s a good thing to see but it’s an awful disease,” Al Masterman said.
Masterman lost his wife to breast cancer in 2011. Now his daughter is fighting this disease and when he saw the house, he says he had to stop.
“It's been four years but it’s still too much,” Masterman said.
The homeowner, who doesn't want to be identified, said he wants to help people like Masterman and his family.
“He really just did it to bring awareness to the situation. He's the kind of guy that does things and does want anything in return,” said a friend of the homeowner Lavonda Locke.
The painting of this house is not only to raise general awareness of the disease. The names on the sign will change each day honoring those who passed away and those who survived breast cancer.
“One young lady is Tammy Richardson and I got in touch with her family to ask if I could honor their sister in this way,” Locke said.
Many people came to admire the house and they all had their own story.
“My sister was diagnosed with breast cancer five years ago. She says she took one for the team. What this man has done for the community is just beautiful,” community member Michelle Conforti said.
In front of the house there are envelopes where people can donate to Roswell Park Cancer Institute, a cause dear to Masterman's heart.
Now he said there is one thing he wants people to know. “Everyone needs to be checked. My wife wasn't and the bad thing is it took her life."
