Mary Beth Kupiec knows a loss she doesn't wish on anyone. Her son, Brandon died suddenly in his sleep at the age of 20.

“Unfortunately, we have no cause for his death,” she said. “Birthdays are tough. Holidays are rough,” she said.

Kupiec was one of several dozen at Wattengel Funeral Home in North Tonawanda Sunday night remembering a child they lost.

It was part of a worldwide candle lighting ceremony started by a nonprofit called The Compassionate Friends. It's held the second Sunday in December every year. “Whether it's been one year or 20 years, it seems to be a really difficult time,” said Funeral Director, Greg Wood.

“Services like this allow us to say their name, to mention them, to be all about them,” added Kupiec.
