Chautauqua County Sheriff's deputies were led on a high speed chase just before 3 a.m. Saturday morning.

Deputies say they stopped a man on Routes 5 and 20 for a lane violation when they found a loaded handgun that holds more than the normal amount of ammunition in the car.

While deputies were securing the handgun, the car fled the scene.

The chase ensued through the Village of Silver creek and into the Town of Sheridan.

Deputies say they lost sight of the car around a curve during the chase. They found debris in a yard on Route 5 and Newell Road and eventually found the crashed vehicle.

Deputies, New York State Police, and the Dunkirk Police Department secured the scene.

The unidentified male was taken by Mercy Flight to Erie County Medical Center and a woman, Shakilah Williams, 24, was taken to Brooks Memorial Hospital by Alstar Ambulance.

Charges are pending and the investigation is ongoing.
