Congressman Brian Higgins is calling for a full and formal environmental review of the Buffalo Skyway including an assessment of Skyway removal and alternatives.

Higgins, who has been a longtime advocate for tearing down the Skyway, believes the process is a necessary step in making the project eligible for transportation funding.

"The skyway is deteriorating according to the State Department of Transportation not my figures, theirs, the skyway to rehabilitate it would require between $75 and $125 million," said Higgins. "There are alternatives including a Buffalo harbor bridge estimated to cost cost $90 million."

Higgins said with the development along the waterfront the community can support alternatives routes like making Ohio Street a parkway and reconstructing South ark Avenue.
