On Monday Rebecca Barnell launched "Colton's Journey to Liberation", a non-profit that "inspires awareness & changes the conversation around substance abuse."

Barnell's son, Colton, passed away in 2016 due to complications with drug addiction. He had been fighting addiction for 10 years when he passed away. At the time, he was in recovery.

Colton's Journey to Liberation will offer opportunities to educate and engage the public on substance abuse. Barnell believes a large issue is that recovering from addiction is looked down upon in society.

"I don't believe it brings shame. I believe the strength that we need is by loving them and to do the right thing and just offer them help."
