Children, young adults in medical marijuana study

Posted
and last updated

The State Health Department is looking for participants to help study the effect of medical marijuana in children and young adults with treatment-resistant epilepsy.

The state will be conducting the study at five sites across New York, including Women and Children’s Hospital in Buffalo and the University of Rochester Medical Center. It will study the effectiveness of Epidiolex, an investigational pharmaceutical-grade form of cannabidiol.

Epidiolex is not FDA approved, so it is currently unavailable to patients in New York State.

Eligible participants will be between 1- to 21-years-old and meet the clinical definition of severe, treatment-resistant epilepsy. Children and young adults will be referred by their treating neurologist for the study.
