Seven headstones, dating back to the 1800s, were found by Gowanda Police when they were investigating 21-year-old Shawn Blanc for something else.
Investigators say the headstones were taken from Cemetery Hill and Maplewood Cemetery. They were reportedly found inside Blanc's home.
The Erie County Sheriff’s Office charged Blanc with a felony count of cemetery desecration and felony criminal mischief. Gowanda Police Department charged the defendant with two counts of felony cemetery desecration, one count of felony criminal mischief and petit larceny.
Both agencies are continuing their investigations and more charges could be filed.
