AMHERST — The Amherst Police Department, multiple local fire departments, Amherst Emergency Services, and Twin City Ambulance responded to a motel on Inn Keepers Lane to investigate a noxious odor inside the building.

Inn Keepers Lane was closed to all vehicular and pedestrian traffic Sunday night. Drivers and pedestrians were advised to avoid the area.

Hazmat teams from the Brighton Fire Department and Clarence Fire Department conducted a thorough search of the property but were unable to locate any source of hazardous materials.

The Town of Amherst Emergency Services Department is working to relocate displaced residents from the building.

There is no indication of immediate hazards to the surrounding neighborhood, and there do not appear to be any immediate concerns for residents of the neighboring community. The investigation is ongoing.

The Amherst Police Department also thanked the Ellicott Creek Fire Company and Getzville Fire Company for their assistance.
