Hamburg little league coach honored after 40 years

Reunions are never a given, particularly not after 40 years. In 1978 one Hamburg Little League baseball team won the championship and went undefeated- that still has not been done 'till this day.

Thursday a few of the players on that team reunited with their coach in Hamburg at the Water Valley Inn where he was gifted a token of their appreciation.

"When I look at the numbers and the years, yes I can believe it. Other than that no, it feels like I could go out there and do it again," said Peter Gugliuzza, coach of the 1978 Hamburg Little League team.

For some players, Gugliuzza was more than just a coach.

"It means everything, my father died when I was 12 and i literally didn't play baseball for a year. I was an All-Star, took a year off and rick and his father talked me into playing baseball again. It just built my confidence level up, I probably wouldn't be the same individual I am if it wasn't for Mr. Gugliuzza and Eric also.

The group gathered as featured members at this month's Kiwanis meeting. In 1978, Kiwanis was the team's sponsor, today they served as the organization that brought some familiar faces back together.
