Governor Andrew Cuomo has now signed a new law that lets immigrant parents designate a "standby guardian" for their children if they're detained.

He approved the bill Wednesday, just after a federal judge ordered that immigrant families who were separated must be reunited.

Cuomo announced Tuesday the state of New York will provide free legal services to anyone detained on immigration charges in the state's airports.
