The rhythm is gonna get you, Buffalo. And the Queen City has already captured the heart of the singing superstar who brought that song to life.
Gloria Estefan and her husband Emilio joined Mayor Byron Brown in the lobby of Shea's Performing Arts Center this morning, where the mayor proclaimed September 21st 'Emilio and Gloria Estefan Day.' The Cuban-American couple's musical, 'On Your Feet' - which is based on the lives and music of the 26-time Grammy winners - launches its North American Tour at Shea's tomorrow night.
Friday's preview performance will be followed by the official opening night on Saturday.
The jukebox musical, which features familiar hits such as 'Conga,' '1-2-3' and, of course, 'Get On Your Feet,' comes to Buffalo fresh off a two-year run on Broadway. The cast features Christie Prades, who plays Gloria, Mauricio Martinez in the role of Emilio, and ensemble member Devon Goffman, who is a native of Orchard Park.
"I get a very family, familiar feeling here in Buffalo. I love Buffalo," Gloria said.
'On Your Feet' runs through September 30th at Shea's.
