Maple Weekend this year is Saturday and Sunday and April 2nd - 3rd. Farms across western New York are working hard to stock their shelves with sweet treats including Maple Glen Sugar House in Gowanda.

"Well, Sue is busy filling the trays," said Paul Lesefske the co-owner of Maple Glen Sugar House. "The syrup goes through a machine that mixes air into it."
That's how Lesefske says maple candy is made. He and his staff fill trays shaped as a maple leaf, with pure maple syrup which hardens and forms pieces of candy.
When you bite into the maple sugar candy be prepared for it to melt as soon as it hits your tongue.
"It's pure sugar," said Lesefske.
At the Lesefske farm maple candy isn't the only thing they have on the shelf for Maple Weekend. You'll find maple popcorn, maple peanuts, maple cream, maple coffee, maple syrup...get the picture?
Just about anything maple-made is found inside his store.

"Maple weekend is big for us. It accounts for nearly 20-25% of our sales," said Lesefske. "We're expecting 500 to 1,000 people a day this weekend."
Maple Syrup fact: it takes about 43 gallons of sap to make 1 gallon of syrup if the sap is at 2% @WKBW

This weekend's event is free. Lesefske is offering a tour that walks you and the family through the syrup making process, a hay ride throughout his farm and a store packed with goodies to take home.
The event runs each day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
