BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) — Here's one way to ease the pain of COVID restrictions, and escape to a tropical paradise.

Hawaii wants to boost business by enticing people to move to the islands, even if it's only for a short time.

The temporary residency program offers free round trip plane tickets as incentive.

Here's the catch: you have to be a remote worker, and you have to stay for at least 30 days.

The idea here is that you will contribute to the state's economy while you're there, and you have to volunteer for a non-profit a few hours per week.

The program is accepting its first group of applicants until December 15.

Only fifty people will be chosen initially, but then more applicants will be accepted on a rolling basis.

The temporary residency program is called, Movers and Shakers.
