New York State says there are about 300,000 people in Erie County alone who can save hundreds of dollars by filing their income tax returns for free on the internet.
If your adjusted gross income is under $62,000 a year, you qualify. The state says there is no need for you to hire a tax expert, since it offers user-friendly software on it's website. The average wage earner could save at least $100.
The NYS tax office also provides help for taxpayers at 5 different assistance sites located at the Erie County Public Library offices.
