Father Joseph Moreno was well known in the Buffalo area as the Roman Catholic priest who ministered to police, firefighters and first responders, as well as the poor.  Serving at several parishes, Father Joe also headed to Ground Zero in New York City after the 9-11 terrorist attacks to help victims, families and friends.

The popular priest was given several commendations for his efforts including the Medal of Honor from former NYS Governor George Pataki.

Father Joe’s unexpected death in October 2012 shocked the community and saw a massive turnout for his funeral.

After his death, the Moreno family started the “Fr. Joe Moreno Memorial Foundation” in 2013 with a mission statement of “feeding the hungry; clothing the poor, caring for the sick, and lending assistance to those in need, with special care for police, firefighters, and first responders”

The foundation has provided assistance to over 100 families to date.

However, the foundation is struggling financially to the continue the good works of Fr. Joe and is asking the public for help.

On Saturday August 12, 2017, a “Walk to Remember” will be held in Delaware Park with registration starting at 8 a.m.  The foundation is hoping to raise $15,000 which will be used to help the foundation in its mission that also includes a new program to help families at Women & Children’s Hospital.

More information about the walk can be found here: https://www.facebook.com/frjoefoundation/
