A former Genesee County correction officer has been charged with rape after having sexual relations with a weekend work detail inmate, according to the Genesee County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff Gary Maha says it is alleged that 36-year-old Michael Glow had consensual sexual relations with a female inmate while he was supervising the work detail in the City of Batavia in April. The alleged incident was reported and an investigation was initiated.

According to the sheriff's office, under New York State Law, a person is deemed incapable of giving consent when he or she is committed to the care and custody of a local correctional facility and the actor is an employee of the local correctional facility.

Glow was terminated from his duties and additional charges may be pending. Deputies say Glow has worked as a correction officer at the Genesee County Jail for about five years.

Glow was arraigned in Batavia City Court and released under the supervision of Genesee Justice.
