Former counselor charged with rape of facility resident

A former counselor at Cazenovia Recovery Systems in Buffalo has been accused of raping a male resident at the facility.

Pamela Grzechowiak, 46, was arraigned in State Supreme Court in Erie County on one count of rape in the third degree, one count of sexual abuse in the second degree, and one count of sexual misconduct.

Grezchowiak was a licensed mental health counselor at Cazenovia Recovery Systems when prosecutors say she had sexual intercourse and committed sexual abuse against the resident. The timeline of the alleged abuse has not been released.

According to prosecutors, Grzechowiak is no longer employed at the facility. She was released on her own recognizance following arraignment.

The prosecution of this case will be handled by the New York State Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. The center handles cases related to any facility licensed by the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuses Services (OASAS). Cazenovia Recovery Systems is licensed by OASAS to offer in-patient and residential treatment for alcoholism, drug addiction, and other forms of addiction.
