A former correction officer has pleaded guilty to receiving a bribe to smuggle a cell phone into a New York prison.

Authorities say 28-year-old Chad Lindner of Silver Creek agreed to bring a cell phone to an inmate at Collins Correctional Facility last November in exchange for $200.

State investigators became aware of the plans and arrested Lindner as he met with the inmate's girlfriend to pick up the phone and money.

Lindner resigned from the state Corrections Department. He faces up to seven years in prison after pleading guilty Thursday to receiving a bribe. Sentencing is scheduled for August.

Cell phones are considered dangerous contraband in a prison.
