According to the Oral Cancer Foundation, nearly 50,000 new cases are diagnosed each year. However, very little awareness is made about this form of cancer.
"Many people falsely believe that oral cancer is only associated with smoking and tobacco use,” Dr. Scott Westermeier, co-founder of Westermeier Martin Dental, said.
Doctors say hpv is behind a striking increase in cases among young people. Smokers and tobacco users are at a higher risk. But this can happen to those who hve never dipped or puffed. The disease typically affects people over 55.
Dentists usually check for the disease during your bi-annual cleaning.
