Ford will end production of four passenger car models: the Fiesta, Taurus, Fusion, and Focus. The only cars produced going forward will be the Mustang and the upcoming Ford Focus Active.
By 2020, "almost 90 percent of the Ford portfolio in North America will be trucks, utilities, and commercial vehicles," the company said.
Ford is responding to a trend that's spanned several years of families turning to larger cars. Mustang owners say they've seen this trend, but are also confident their ponies will continue to be built, because of an exponential interest in muscle cars by young drivers.
