Governor Cuomo announced today that $3.1 million has been awarded to four emergency food relief organizations in Western New York.

The Food Bank of Western New York in Erie County will get $2,666,975. They are required to devote a portion of the funding to foods that help prevent chronic diseases, such as diabetes and obesity.

The Governor said, "This funding will help ensure that some of the most vulnerable New Yorkers will continue to be able to put food on their tables and provide for their families."

Funding has been awarded to three other organizations:

  • Cattaraugus Community Action, Inc. in Cattaraugus County awarded $114,175
  • Chautauqua County Rural Ministry, Inc. in Chautauqua County awarded $150,529
  • Heart Love & Soul, Inc. in Niagara County awarded $175,000

Representatives say the funding will benefit more than 2,600 food pantries and soup kitchens across New York State.
