State police say one person has been killed and others injured in a multi-vehicle crash on an icy upstate New York highway.
Troopers say westbound Route 17 was shut down for several hours after the accident at about 3:30 a.m. Tuesday between exits 107 and 109. That's just outside the Sullivan County village of Monticello.
They say the pileup involved five tractor-trailers and two cars that lost control as they traveled down an icy stretch of the highway. The roads were glazed from freezing rain as a nor'easter moved into the region.
Police say five people were taken to hospitals with injuries that aren't life-threatening. One of the drivers died at the scene.
The names of the victims won't be released until relatives are notified.
