More than a half dozen tents line Transit Road in the Town of Lockport. Inside each tent are firework, and lots of them.
For the past two weeks people have been stocking up on fireworks for the holiday weekend. The owner of the first tent over the Erie-Niagara County line, Kevin Kelley, says he's seen a steady stream of customers.
Despite this being the third year in which people can buy fireworks in New York, he says he still needs to remind people what can and cannot be purchased.
“We are operating under the 'Safe and Sane' classification of fireworks. So, these are all ground products. They don't go super high. They stay on the ground. So, we don't have the aerials or the bottle rockets but everything in here is a lot of fun,” said Kelley.
Kelley says they'll be open late this week and reminds people to be safe when using fireworks, especially near children.
Fireworks are legal for purchase until July 5th.
Small fireworks are legal in Niagara, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, and Allegany counties.
