Sen. Marc Panepinto (D-Buffalo) is asking for financial assistance for the Town of Tonawanda after a local plant was closed for business.
Lawmakers say the Huntley Tonawanda coal facility was the single-largest taxpayer in the town.
Federal officials have already given the town $160 thousand to help develop a long-term economic plan, but Senator Panepinto says the town needs more.
The Ken-Ton School District will lose about $3 million dollars in annual revenue as a result of the closing.
Seventy-two employees are expected to be laid off at the end of March.
