New numbers out Monday show fewer people are dying from opioid overdoses in Erie County.
Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz reports that as of last Friday there have been 143 confirmed overdose deaths this year and another 95 suspected opioid deaths. According to Poloncarz that means the average number of deaths dropped from eleven to less than eight deaths per week over the last month.
Poloncarz said on Twitter "while these numbers regarding opioid deaths are distressing, I am encouraged to see the average number of deaths per week dropping."
