The gateway to Unity Island is once again ready to go. After more than a year of work, and an extensive renovation, the Ferry Street lift bridge has been reopened to vehicular traffic.

"This bridge is roughly around 100 years old." said Buffalo Commissioner of Public Works Steve Stepniak. "We did the sidewalks which we are standing on today. We did painting. We did mechanical services. It is fully operational at this point."

Work began in the fall of 2014. The 8.5 million dollar project connects people to Unity Island which recently had a complete makeover of it's own. The newly renovated park is a popular spot for fishing and watching sunsets.
