FBI Director visits Buffalo, talks terrorism

FBI Director James Comey made a stop at the Buffalo FBI office Downtown Monday.

It was Comey's most recent stop to Buffalo. The last time he visited was early 2014.

He says the number one priority for the bureau is fighting terrorism. The FBI spends a great deal of time monitoring ISIL's presence on social media. Comey says the FBI is seeing a drop in the number of people recruited by ISIL online, and those attempting to travel to Syria to join the terrorist group.

"Over the last 6 months, we've seen about one person a month trying to travel (to Syria). I don't want to be over confident, but we've seen the pattern long enough that it appears something has changed," Comey said.

He says the FBI continues to open new cases in the country, to determine where people are on the spectrum of consuming ISIL's message...to acting on it with violence.
