Fatal pedestrian crash on Transit Road in Elma

The Erie County Sheriff’s Office announced it is investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that took place on Transit Road in the Town of Elma Saturday night.

Just after 10 p.m. a deputy traveling southbound on Transit Road observed a man lying in the roadway just north of Clinton Street.

The deputy stopped to investigate and found the victim unresponsive with a large wound on the back of his head.

He was taken to South Buffalo Mercy Hospital where we was later pronounced dead.

The victim had no identification on him according to the Sheriff’s Office; he is being described as a black male in his 60s with gray balding hair and a gray beard. He was wearing jeans and a T-shirt.

The driver of the vehicle suspected of striking the man, along with multiple witnesses, were interviewed at the scene. No charges have been filed at this point.

The Sheriff’s Office asks anyone with information about the identity of the victim to call its office at (716) 858-2903.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
