Fans excited for Buffalo Bisons home opener

The Buffalo Bisons opened the 2017 season with their home opener on Saturday and many Western New Yorkers took advantage of the nice weather to support "The Herd".

The Bisons beat the Scranton Wilkes-Barre Rail Riders 4-2 to start their season.

The opener was the first ever baseball game for 4 year old Russell Vancoevering, whose father Richard brought him down to Coca-Cola Field.

"It's his first ever baseball game and he starts tee-ball this year too," Richard said. "He likes baseball."

Damian Mikrut from Cheektowaga said he usually goes to about 20 Bisons games each season, so he was anxiously waiting for opening day.

"We've been coming down here for the last 8 or 9 seasons," he said. "We never miss an opening day. We love coming down here and always take the kids. It's great."

Mikrut and others were happy opening day was postponed after the rain and snow seen in Buffalo this week.

"It was nice they moved it to a Saturday so the kids got to come," Mikrut said. "It's opening day and they usually don't come to opening day."

"It's a lot better than Thursday," joked Carren Brennan.
