Them Thi La, a 65-year-old Vietnamese immigrant, bled to death on Grant Street in Buffalo on October 13 as her husband looked on, unable to help his dying wife.

Police say 23-year-old Ian Diebold of Kenmore told them he was on fentanyl at the time of the crash and was on his way to buy heroin. He dropped his cell phone while calling his drug dealer and became distracted, hitting Thi La as she unloaded packages from her parked vehicle.

Diebold pleaded guilty Thursday to second degree vehicular manslaughter. He faces up to seven years in prison when he is sentenced in January.

Linda Nguyen, Thi La's granddaughter sat down with 7 Eyewitness News reporter Jill Perkins and shared her family's tragic story.
