A Niagara County family has lost their home after a fire destroyed it Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Niagara County Sheriff's Office, a resident of the home on Bunker Hill Road in the Town of Royalton, said that she saw flames in the home and called firefighters.

First responders arrived and found the back of the home fully engulfed by flames.

The only resident home at the time was able to escape safely with the family dog.

Several area fire companies responded to the scene.

The American Red Cross was called to assist the two adults and three children displaced by the fire.

According to deputies, the two-story house and contents are a total loss.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

A YouCaring page has been set up to help the family with expenses.
