Residents of Wyoming County are asked to beware of a fraudulent scam on Facebook.
The Wyoming County Sheriff's Office says the suspects have posed as a "friend' on the social media site of people the victims of this scam are already friends with.
The Sheriff's Office says the suspects persuade the victims to call a phone number to claim a $100,000 prize. When the victims call the number, they are persuaded to send lump sums of thousands of dollars to pay for handling, processing, and taxes prior to the delivery of their prize.
Officials say there is no prize.
The scam investigation is ongoing.
