Around 50 people called the sheriff’s office when they heard an explosion so loud Friday night, it shook their homes.

The calls started pouring into the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office around 9:30pm from residents on Fisher Road in Oakfield, Morganville Road in Stafford and Warner Road in Darien, LeRoy, Alexander and Batavia.

Deputies were able to figure out the explosion happened on Dodgeson Road in Alexander, between Wortendyke Road and Route 98.

The sheriff’s office says several people mixed 14-60 pounds of Tannerite to create the explosion. Tannerite is legal to purchase in New York State and is used as an explosive target for shooting, just normally not in such a large quantity.

Deputies say no one was hurt in the explosion and their investigation continues.

It’s unclear if there will be any charges in this case.
