UPDATE: Today the Erie County Water Authority lifted the temporary water restrictions in the Southtowns. The restrictions were put in place while repairing a major water main break at their Sturgeon Point treatment plant.

Original: The Erie County Water Authority is extending temporary water restrictions for towns and villages in the Southtowns for at least another week.

The restrictions will now be in place until Thursday August 17. The ECWA said it's due to unforseen complications while repairing a water main break at the Sturgeon Point Treatment Plant. It also stressed the failure of the 20-25 year old pipe was unexpected, and the cause of the break is still being determined.

The alert applies to the following locations:

-Town and Village of Hamburg
-Town and Village of Orchard Park
-Town of Aurora
-Village of East Aurora
-Colden
-Boston
-Eden
-Evans
-Brant
-Hanover
-Angola
-Farnham
-Silver Creek
-Seneca Nation

While repairs continue, customers may see lower water pressure, but boiling water is not necessary. People are asked to avoid watering their lawn, washing cars and other activities until the repair is complete.

For more information, customers can call the ECWA Customer Service line at (716) 849-8444.
