Erie County fights heroin epidemic

Erie County is fighting the growing heroin epidemic in Western New York. The county's opioid task force is meeting for the first time Monday.

Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz declared the opoiid problem a public health crisis. He then issued an executive order establishing an opioid task force. The group is meeting at the Cheektowaga Erie County Emergency Center.

The task force is made up of health care officials, law enforcement officers, politicians, and those battling addiction.

In Erie County, there were more than 200 opioid related deaths in 2015 alone.
