Technology...can't live with it and can't live without it.

Governor Cuomo announced new regulation making credit reporting agencies register with the state and meet cyber-security standards, starting April 4th, 2018.

This is in response to the recent cyber-attack on Equifax, that exposed personal data of nearly 150 million people across the nation.

Cuomo said, "A person's credit history affects virtually every part of their lives and we will not sit idle by while New Yorkers remain unprotected from cyber-attacks due to lax security."

The Department of Financial Services cyber-security regulation will require banks, insurance companies, and other financial institutions regulated by DFS to have a security program to protect consumer's private data.
